Date: 29/08/2010 Overall verdict 3 out of 5 stars What's it like to drive 4 out of 5 stars Running costs 4 out of 5 stars Quality, practicality and equipment 2 out of 5 stars Average MPG 50 My car I bought a Seat Leon 1.9tdi in June of this year from Arnold Shark. I had it about 2 months when the ESP light came on. On inspection by Seat it turned out to be the ABS control Unit that had gone - a repair bill of 1500 quid. Luckily the car was under warranty and Arnold Clark gave me another leon, again a 1.9tdi stylance. Within 12 hours of driving this car the ESP light came on and again on inspection was the exact same problem. I have now got a civic to replace the leon. The Leon itself is gorgeous and very easy to drive, it isnt too noisy for a deisel and has a good mpg. For the ABS unit to go twice in two separate models though, one after the other, is worrying. Seat are now saying it is common in Leons that are now 3 years old or older. £1500 is a lot of money to replace this part when you consider i payed £8500 for a 56 plate, so i would ensure it has been done before buying a used one. As for buying from Arnold Clark well thats a different story, the poorest service and aftersales service i have ever come across. Bitterly dissapointed and unamused. Made changing from car to car feel like i was one at fault and that i was ungrateful. If the Leon didnt have this problem i would have given 4 stars all round. 1.6 Reference 5dr Glen Dawson Date: 16/07/2010 Overall verdict 3 out of 5 stars What's it like to drive 5 out of 5 stars Running costs 3 out of 5 stars Quality, practicality and equipment 3 out of 5 stars My car I have owned my Leon from new on a ’57 plate and have covered 31k miles. I opted for the 18” alloys and iPod connectivity as extras. (+) Points: Fantastic to drive! Acceleration is excellent, both off the mark and at cruising speed. The handling (particularly on the 18” wheels) is superb. The seats are firm but comfortable and the overall driving position is spot on. The 170bhp engine offers a good balance of performance and economy. The levels of standard equipment are good and the stereo sounds great. There is plenty of room in the cabin. With the ‘FR’ trim this car really looks the part. (-) Points: I have had a number of minor but annoying issues with the car and it has become a regular at my local Seat dealership. It has suffered from poor starting in the sub-zero temperatures of the last two winters, a clogged particulate filter, an annoying dashboard rattle and a lack of power due to a faulty exhaust sensor. In many cases Seat has failed to fix the issues and therefore it has had to be returned. What doesn’t help is the 10k service intervals, which means more trips to the garage. I also feel that the dashboard is fairly cheap, the climate control needs constant adjustment and the MPG could be better considering the same engine in the Golf or A3 easily gives 50+. Summary: The Leon FR is a great looking car that performs extremely well and is good fun to drive. It is let down by poor reliability, cheap plastics inside and poor dealership support. 1.9 TDI Reference 5dr peter oliver , w yorks . Date: 14/05/2010 Overall verdict 5 out of 5 stars What's it like to drive 5 out of 5 stars Running costs 5 out of 5 stars Quality, practicality and equipment 4 out of 5 stars Average MPG 45 My car i have just bought this car in preference to a golf the new golf 1.6 tdi does not impress me but the 1.9 tdi leon gives me the performance and economy that i got with my mark 5 golf 1.9 tdi okay the visibility is not as good as the golf but i find that it handles very well and if driven sensibly can return excellent fuel consumption figures it has power when required and holds the road well i would definitely recommend this car to anyone 2.0 TDI FR 5dr Jeremy Hardwick-Green , England . Economy is still excellent and we have seen 58mpg on a long motorway run and an average of 50mpg. The stereo did seem a little confusing at first and is still not the most intuitive to use. But the sound is very good and love the way it integrates and displays climate control and phone information etc. Bluetooth has proven invaluable and again found it very easy to use via the cars MFD and steering wheel controls. I still find the road noise a little intrusive but overall the FR is fast and fun and has been totally reliable. Well worth test driving but I do recommend the 17" wheels over the 18" wheels they are more complaint and kick up less road noise. 3 pages 1 2 3 › » Own or drive this car?
